Compare
the sailing performance of over 1,000 sailboats.
Yacht Design is a program that gives you a feeling for the sailing characteristics
of a sailboat. Yacht Design V 1.7 uses 3D
color bar graphs for comparing sailboats. For Windows 32 bit OS.
Yacht Design computes a boats sail area displacement,
displacement length ratio, hull speed, ballast displacement, motion comfort and screen
number. All these coefficients are explained in the program. It contains a large database
of over 1,000 yachts. The user may add or delete boats from the database. After searching
the database, graphs may be plotted comparing the coefficients of two to five yachts. The
program has context sensitive Help.
Who Can Benefit From This Program
To assist the new boat buyer, current owner, yacht broker or yacht
surveyor, I have developed a computerized yacht performance evaluation program for
sailboats.
For the Boat Owner
The Yacht Design program helps you to understand the innate qualities of the boat
you now own. The Yacht Design program help you to better understand the design
characteristics and evaluate any changes you wish to make.
For the Boat Buyer
A yacht represents a large investment. The Yacht Design program will give you the
knowledge to make the right decision.
For the Boat Seller
The Yacht Design program will eliminate any doubt or confusion about your yacht's
capabilities for the prospective buyer.
For the Boat Surveyor
The Performance Evaluation graphs go beautifully with the survey report. Not only
does it give your client terrific information - it enhances your professional image!
How and Why I Created the Yacht Design program...
For whatever reason you want a sailboat. Whether for racing, day sailing, or offshore
cruising - the questions you ask yourself, before you buy (since it represents such a
large investment) are, "Is the dealer knowledgeable enough to tell me what I
need?" and "Will the sailboat do what I want it to do?" The fact is, there
are as many types of sailboats as there are "what I want it to do's" - which
makes it very confusing for buyers to choose the right boat for their needs. Even an
experienced yachtsman has doubts when he has to choose between the many permutations of
rigs, types and shapes. The Yacht Design program, with its database of over 1,000 yachts,
will gave you what you needed to make the right choices. I took the following performance
ratios and equation formulas:
and created (with the help of my programming background) a computerized
program for yacht performance and evaluation. The program will allow comparisons using 3-D
color bar graphs on the above formulas.
Yacht designers and naval architects in building yachts to specific needs developed
these performance ratios over many years. They are used in the design of all sailboats:
racers, ocean cruisers, motorsailers, daysailers, production boats, etc. The computer
analysis gives me the knowledge and confidence needed to make the right decision to make
my dream come true! Of course you can enroll in a yacht design course and devise your own
computer program to calculate all the variables. You'll learn a lot along the way, and I
encourage you to try. But if you want immediate information, try Yacht Design right now.
This computerized yacht performance evaluation program is available to boat dreamers,
boat buyers, boat owners, and boat sellers.

Sail Area Displacement:
Provides a measure of how powerful a given sail plan is in relation to the displacement of
a vessel and its associated wave making resistance.
Displacement Length:
Disadvantages of lighter boats include reduced load-carrying ability and a less dampened
motion at sea: disadvantages of heavier boats include poorer light air performance and
reduced agility under sail.
Hull Speed:
Because wave speed equals boat speed, a longer waterline, which generates longer
transverse waves, confers greater speed.
Motion Comfort:
Length Over All is not the deciding factor, some smaller boats can have a Motion Comfort
Ratio equal to their larger sisters.
Ballast Displacement:
This ratio is an indication of a boats stiffness, or its ability to resist heeling
Screen Number:
Is an indicator of a vessels ability to resist capsizing. |
